In her book Making Our Future: Visionary Folklore and Everyday Culture in Appalachia, Emily Hilliard presents what she calls “visionary folklore,” sidestepping nostalgia in favor of a cooperative approach that catalogs traditions while seeking to identify and participate in new cultural practices.
