May 9, 2016 Luann Landon’s first book of poems, South Bound, is a collection of verse narratives about the American South. Earlier poems have appeared in Measure, Sewanee Theological Review, Cumberland Poetry Review, The Tennessee Quarterly, and others. Her memoir-cookbook, Dinner at Miss Lady’s, was published by Algonquin in 1999. A Nashville native, Landon now lives in Sewanee. She will appear at Parnassus Books in Nashville on May 10, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.
March 28, 2016 Lagnajita Mukhopadhyay is a senior at Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet School, and she has been writing for as long as she can remember with the help of her creative and supportive parents. In 2015, she served as the first-ever Nashville Youth Poet Laureate, and her work is under contract with Penmanship Books. She will read from this is our war at Parnassus Books in Nashville on April 1, 2016, at 6 p.m.
March 22, 2016 Born and raised in Knoxville, Sue Weaver Dunlap now lives deep in the Tennessee mountains near Walland, where she and her husband live on and work a mountain cattle farm. Her poems have appeared in Appalachian Journal, Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Appalachian Heritage, and Southern Poetry Anthology, among other collections and journals. Dunlap will read from Knead at Union Ave. Books in Knoxville on March 24, 2016, at 6 p.m.
February 19, 2016 William Wright is the author of nine poetry collections, including Tree Heresies (Mercer University Press, 2015), Night Field Anecdote (Louisiana Literature Press, 2011), Bledsoe (Texas Review Press, 2011), and Dark Orchard (Texas Review Press, 2005). His poems have recently appeared in The Kenyon Review, the Oxford American, The Antioch Review, Shenandoah, and the Southern Poetry Review. He currently serves as Writer in Residence at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He will give a free public reading at UT’s John C. Hodges Library on February 22, 2016, at 7 p.m.
February 8, 2016 Christina Stoddard is the author of Hive, which won the 2015 Brittingham Prize in Poetry from the University of Wisconsin Press. Along with TJ Jarrett, Stoddard will give a reading at Vanderbilt University in Nashville at 7 p.m. on February 11, 2016, in Buttrick Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
October 16, 2015 Gaylord Brewer is a professor at Middle Tennessee State University, where he founded and for more than twenty years edited the journal Poems & Plays. His most recent books are a ninth collection of poetry, Country of Ghost, and the cookbook-memoir The Poet’s Guide to Food, Drink, & Desire, both published in 2015. At noon on October 23, 2015, Brewer will give a free public reading at University Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.
