Editor's Note
Summer has arrived, bringing hot weather and, at least for some of us, a little down time and more opportunities to relax with a book. If you happen to be in the mood for poetry, don’t miss Emily Choate’s roundup of recent collections, with books by Richard Tillinghast, Stephanie Niu, and Abby N. Lewis. Aram Goudsouzian interviews fellow historian Brian Kwoba about his book Hubert Harrison: Forbidden Genius of Black Radicalism, which examines the life and thought of the early 20th-century activist and educator. Completing this week’s lineup is “‘Some Future Cave Dweller Will Find These Notes’ (1987),” an essay by Denver David Robinson about the lifelong impact of an encounter on an airplane.
We’re delighted to note that Linda Parsons, Chapter 16’s longtime copy editor and a frequent contributor, has been named the new Knoxville Poet Laureate. She joins a distinguished list of the city’s poets laureate, and we know she’ll bring her unique touch to the role. Congratulations, Linda!
