March 22, 2011 Last month, Chapter 16 published an interview with Madison Smartt Bell and an excerpt from his forthcoming novel, The Color of Night. Now Bell gives a reading from the book in BOMB Magazine‘s series, “Fiction for Driving Across America.” Download the podcast here.
Updated March 24: Here’s another interview with Bell, this time in Granta, in which he explains how he gets his ideas: “A lot of my stories are like lint in your pocket. Little pieces keep sticking together until finally you have to do something about it.” The interview is a companion piece to a new, “rather weird” (Bell’s own description) story, “Rabbit Cycling”, also in Granta‘s “Aliens” issue. Both interview and story are illustrated by drawings (napkin doodlings?) that Bell did himself.
