Nashville author River Jordan covers a lot of ground in Confessions of a Christian Mystic, a book that’s part memoir, part religious testimony, and part lyrical meditation. Jordan will appear at Parnassus Books in Nashville on March 29, and at Novel in Memphis on April 25.

“Primer”

Anders Carlson-Wee is the recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and winner of the 2017 Poetry International Prize. He will read from his debut collection, The Low Passions, at Pretentious Beer Co. in Knoxville on March 21, at Vanderbilt University in Nashville on March 22, and at The Porch in Nashville on March 23.

Afoot and Lighthearted: A Journal for Mindful Walking, a beautiful new book by Nashville nonfiction author Bonnie Smith Whitehouse, is clearly a labor of love. Whitehouse will discuss her new guide to meditative meandering at Parnassus Books in Nashville on March 7.

Grits: A Cultural & Culinary Journey Through the South, a new book by Nashville writer Erin Byers Murray, tells the story of a dish that has been part of the story of the South as long as the South has been a nameable region.

Opening the Black Box

Dani Shapiro was unprepared for a routine DNA test’s stunning revelation: that her beloved father was not a biological relative. Her new memoir, Inheritance, tracks the fallout of these results, one surprising revelation after another. Shapiro will discuss Inheritance at Parnassus Books in Nashville on January 30.

“The Cairns ”

Bill Brown is the author of ten poetry collections. During the past thirty years, he has published hundreds of poems and articles in literary journals and anthologies. He will read from his new collection, The Cairns, at Parnassus Books in Nashville on January 12.
